Gyms should remain open in any new restrictions.

Fianna Fáil T.D for Dublin North West, Paul McAuliffe, has called for Gyms to remain open during any new restrictions set to be announced this evening.

Gyms provide an important outlet for people to remain physically and mentally fit, I fear if they are closed in new restrictions it may have a detrimental impact on people’s mental health. During the last lockdown we saw a large increase in people exercising outdoors. The same outlet may not be available this time with poor weather and the evenings getting darker much earlier. It is for that reason I am asking the government not to close gyms and class them as an essential service.

“Individual training is allowed in gyms at level 3 currently and it is important that this is allowed to continue, many gyms don’t have the facility to allow outdoor classes.” concluded McAuliffe.
