McAuliffe welcomes €49 million for Cycling and Walking projects

Fianna Fáil TD for Dublin North West, Paul McAuliffe, has welcomed news of a €49 million euro allocation to Dublin City Council from the National Transport Authority for sustainable transport projects. This funding is part of an overall package of €240m to support sustainable transport projects around the country, which was announced by the National Transport Authority this week.

Included in the allocation is €1 million for the Finglas Roundabouts scheme (Jamestown and St Margaret’s Road), €250,000 for Finglas Village improvements, €500,000 for a cycleway from Finglas to Killester and €1 million for a cycleway from Glasnevin to Clontarf. The allocation also includes €100,000 for the Santry river greenway.

“Today’s announcement is underpinned by this governments commitment to invest almost €1 million per day in walking and cycling infrastructure in 2021.

“During this pandemic, we’ve reconnected with our local areas and we’re all aware as to why and where improvements to walking and cycling infrastructure are needed throughout the city.

“This substantial funding of over €49 million for our city shows a clear commitment from the government to making our roadways safer for all, especially pedestrians and cyclists .I particularly welcome the funding of €1 million for the Finglas roundabouts scheme which I have campaigned on for over a decade, and I look forward to seeing the projects progressing over the coming months.” Concluded McAuliffe.
