No more excuses - LDA Bill ensures lack of public housing on public land is no longer acceptable.

Vice Chairperson of the Oireachtas Housing Committee and Fianna Fáil T.D for Dublin North West, Paul McAuliffe has welcomed the publication of the Land Development Agency Bill 2021 by Minister for Housing Darragh O’Brien, saying it leaves no excuses not to build public housing on public land.

Commenting Deputy McAuliffe said, “This new Bill, along with the Affordable Housing Bill leaves no room for excuses when it comes to developing public housing on public land.

“The previous government failed to provide local authorities and Approved Housing Bodies the freedom and tools they needed to develop mixed and sustainable communities. Minister O’Brien has now provided these tools including a single stage approval for some projects. This gives local authority officials and local councillors the opportunity to develop their lands. It also allows the Land Development Agency (LDA) the opportunity to develop those in public ownership not owned by councils.

“The Bill establishes the LDA on a statutory basis and sets out the core goals of the LDA to undertake strategic land assembly and fully utilise state lands to build affordable homes and sustainable communities. The Bill also accelerates the process of delivery, if the local authority fails to deliver housing on its own lands,” concluded Deputy McAuliffe
