94 NEW GARDAÍ ALLOCATED TO DUBLIN

51 NEW GARDAÍ ADDED TO FINGLAS AND BALLYMUN SINCE JANUARY

I welcome this recent allocation of 94 new Gardaí to the Dublin area. In the latest cohort, of the 206 new Gardaí nationwide, 94 are being allocated to the Dublin region and 14 are being distributed to Ballymun (8) and Finglas (6). This brings the total allocation of new Gardaí since the start of the year to 51 in Dublin North West.

This is part of the largest Garda attestation since 2019 and, with more than 200 recruits due to enter the Garda College next week, it demonstrates that a strong pipeline is being built to increase Garda numbers in communities across the country.

The new Gardaí coming to our area will make a real difference in ensuring that people feel safe to go about their daily lives without the risk of harm. With more Gardaí in our area, it will allow them to respond quickly and effectively to incidents as they arise.

The work of Gardaí in Dublin 9 and 11 is vital to keeping people safe, and the new allocation will help ensure they are properly supported, especially as a number of incidents have arisen locally since January.

I commend the Minister for Justice, Jim O’Callaghan, with his continued commitment to ensuring that our communities are properly policed. I look forward to working with him regarding high visibility policing and other local initiatives that will ensure Gardaí on the ground are resourced and our communities feel safe.
